Senior Manager, US IPD Paralegals
Location: San Diego, California

The purpose of this position is to serve as the senior managing paralegal for the US Intellectual Property Department and manage all paralegal and administrative staff across the department. This position serves to insure the smooth operation of the department's administrative infrastructure. The position works with senior attorneys in the department to ensure effective coordination and collaboration between attorneys and paralegals in the department.

ACCOUNTABILITIES:
Supervise and manage the paralegal and administrative work performed by the department.
Insure paralegal group are kept well informed of rules changes and that all department IP forms are kept current
Insure smooth coordination with the TPC IP Department
Manage docket and department calendar and insure that key deadlines for projects are met.
Supervise paralegals regarding docketing procedures and generating miscellaneous status reports (e.g., due dates, specific therapeutic area, inventor, etc.)
Conduct regular meetings and videoconferences among paralegal staff.
Supervise and manage preparation of Monthly Reports regarding US IPD and specific IP Department site activities.
Mentor and train paralegal personnel.

EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE, KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS:
Minimum of 12 years experience in handling intellectual property matters including at least 3 years managerial experience of intellectual property paralegals.
Superior leadership and management skills.
Expert in U.S. and International patent procedures and requirements.
Ability to establish standard operating procedures for paralegals and for the overall department.
Strong planning and organizational skills with the ability to prioritize and multitask.
Ability to take initiative and work independently in a high pressure, heavy workload environment.
Outstanding oral and written communication skills.
Extremely conscientious, detail-oriented individual.
Extensive knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel, Power Point, Outlook and CPI Docketing System.

LICENSES/CERTIFICATIONS:
None required


PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
Manual dexterity required to operate office equipment (i.e. computers, phones, etc.).


TRAVEL REQUIREMENTS:
Ability to drive or fly to various off-site meetings, including overnight trips. Some international travel may be required.
Requires approximately 10% travel.
