Job Summary:

Under the direction of the General Counsel, researches and analyzes law sources such as statutes, recorded judicial decisions, legal articles, treaties, constitutions, and legal codes to respond to legal questions from other staff members.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

* Draft and revise agreements; provide field support on agreement issues
* Review/analyze state statutes to answer questions and communicate changes to relevant parties about the fees the company charges in each state
* Assist field employees and customer service staff on fee issues
* Prepare legal/legislative correspondence and memorandum
* Data manipulation via spreadsheets
* Grass roots organization for lobbying
* Handle lobbying registrations in various states
* Calculate and communicate potential revenue changes based on proposed new legislated rates
* Assist in responding to discovery requests; compile information for document requests; draft answers to interrogatories
* Review legal bills for compliance with Corporate guidelines
* Assist General Counsel in handling legislative relations with trade association
* Analyze and negotiate commercial leases
* Act as a company contact for company’s insurance claims
* Other tasks and projects as assigned by General Counsel

Desired Minimum Qualifications

* A minimum of three years’ experience in an in-house legal environment
* Government affairs experience preferred
* Typing and composing in Microsoft Word; Excel
* Excellent written, verbal and interpersonal skills
* Contract, statute and legal pleading interpretations
* Fundamental understanding of how business operates
* Ability to work under time pressure
* Basic understanding of the political and legislative process
* Possesses good problem-solving and decision-making skills
* High degree of organization, prioritization, and time management

Education:

* 4-year degree
* Paralegal certificate
