Senior Patent Attorney - WYETH
Location: Madison, New Jersey

We currently seek a Senior Patent Attorney to create and secure protection for intellectual property (e.g., patents) for inventions and discoveries made by or licensed to Wyeth's Pharmaceuticals business in the area of Oncology and its related chemical development processes. Support will also be provided to Wyeth Pharmaceuticals' Infectious Diseases group.

RESPONSIBILITIES
•Provide legal counsel and protection of IP assets; serve as liaison with outside law firms, for filing or protection in litigation, oppositions, and patent interferences.
•Procure rights to technology, and participate in due diligence reviews.
•Manage licensed-in filings from universities and companies; coordinate with licensor's attorneys to secure patents.
•Analyze patents and prepare infringement, validity, and freedom-to-operate opinions, including working with outside counsel.
•Develop clients' strategy on how they can develop an area, strengthen patents and work around roadblocks in patents.
•Counsel clients through participation in various levels of R&D and other cross-functional team meetings.
•Identify research subject to filing of patent applications.
•Participate in and/or oversee worldwide patent application preparation and prosecution.
•Conduct educational client seminars and courses on intellectual property.
•Review/approve agreements such as material transfer agreements.

REQUIREMENTS
•Bachelor's degree in a natural science, ideally chemistry
•J.D.
•6 - 10 years experience with a law firm and/or corporation
•Admitted to a State bar
•Admitted to U.S. Patent & Trademark Office
•Experience with preparation and prosecution of patents (U.S. and foreign); preparation of infringement, validity, and freedom-to-operate opinions; client counseling
•Excellent written and verbal communication skills

PREFERRED
•Advanced degree
•Transactional/licensing experience
