Patent Agent/Technical Specialist - HUMAN GENOME SCIENCES

Human Genome Sciences (HGS) is a pioneer in genomics for the discovery and development of new pharmaceutical products. Our goal today is the same as when we were founded in 1992: to create a global biopharmaceutical company to discover, develop, manufacture, and market gene-based drugs to treat and cure disease. We have a significant product pipeline with seven products in clinical development, including drugs to treat hepatitis C, lupus, anthrax exposure, cancer, rheumatoid arthritus and HIV/AIDS. We expect to move three of our key development programs into Phase 3 trials by year-end 2006.
Summary/Description:
Looking for growth opportunities in one of today's most exciting healthcare research fields?

We are currently seeking Patent Agents/Technical Specialists to work closely with our scientific staff to prepare, file process patent applications. You will also work closely with scientific teams to define new inventions, provide scientific advice and oversight in patent prosecution matters, prepare patent applications for filing, prosecute patents, research patent applications and third party intellectual property rights, and assist with appeal, interference, and opposition proceedings.

Requirements:
- At least a MS degree in Molecular Biology, Immunology or equivalent, although a PhD is strongly preferred
- 0-3 years of related experience in patent prosecution and familiarity with Patent Law
- Ability to effectively communicate complex technical issues
- Demonstrated ability to work in a team environment and with others at all levels of the organization
- Ability to accept supervision and work in sometimes stressful situations
- Is flexible and enjoys being challenged
