Location: Washington, D.C,Intellectual Property Owners Association (IPO) is a growing full-service trade association with 11 full-time employees and 200 company members from all major industries. More than 9,000 individuals from companies, law firm affiliates and other members are involved in the association's activities. IPO is filling the new, permanent position of Intellectual Property Law and Policy Counsel. The person selected for the position will report to the Executive Director and work with the Government Affairs Counsel and the Board of Directors.
Applicants are required to have:
- A law degree and an outstanding record of achievement at a nationally recognized law school.
- Outstanding research, writing, and inter-personal skills.
- Two to five years of legal experience with a law firm, company or government agency including significant patent-related experience. Membership in the patent bar is preferred.
- An undergraduate degree in science or engineering.
The Intellectual Property Law and Policy Counsel will support the association's work on comprehensive patent law reform legislation that has been under consideration in the U.S. Congress since 2005 and will continue into the next Congress. Other current IPO interests include legislation to strengthen the patent experience of U.S. district court judges, U.S. Patent and Trademark Office (PTO) funding, PTO rule proposals, PTO patent examination quality, agreements for international harmonization of patent laws and counterfeiting and piracy issues. Duties will include research, writing, government and member relations, and coordination of several of IPO's 30 committees that are concerned with domestic and international patent, trademark, copyright, trade secret and business topics.
